Since the beginning of 2009, it seemed as though the music industry had hit the lottery. With the likes of great talent such as Drake, B.O.B, and Nicki Minaj, you would think that the music Gods gave us all a genie in a bottle to grant us three wishes! Lucky for us, even though we had used all of our wishes, we were given yet another wonderful gift when we were introduced to J. Cole. Charismatic, confident, gifted, and determined are all words that describe this 8th world wonder.
Recently signed to RocNation, J. Cole has definitely proven himself to be an MC to be reckoned with. This Fayetteville, NC native has a smooth look and raw yet soulful rhymes. We recently had a chance to meet J. Cole at Unity in the Community, a back to school bash providing students with some tools they will need for the school year. We definitely were not disappointed with his performance as he hyped the crowd up and delivered flawless rhymes to all of the fans who rushed the stage with their camera phones ready to capture this legend in the making. After he performed, we were privileged enough to ask the rising star a few questions.
Impressed with the way that he patiently signed autographs for members of the community, we were curious to know more about what made J. Cole into the performer and MC that he is today. Knowing that he now works with the likes of Jay-Z, we wanted to find out what artists he himself had been influenced by. J. Cole humbly shared with us that he had been influenced as well as inspired by phenomenal artists such as Tupac, Nas, Eminem, Kanye West, and Jay-Z.
J. Cole also shared with us that now that he is officially a part of the rap game, he hopes to change and add to it by bringing back true quality, creativity, and concepts in his music. You have to respect an artist who cherishes those things, because those are the exact things that true artists need for longevity in the music industry. The other thing it is important to have as an artist is something that separates you from everyone else, because let's face it you have to be able to stand out in order to be truly noticed. J. Cole was quick to tell us that his story separates him from all the other artists out there!
