Getting personal with our Doll of the Month

D.O.L.L.S
If Hollywood made a movie about your life, whom would you like to see play the lead role as you?

Bonita:
Taraji Henson.  She seems like someone that would be my homegirl, lol.  I really admire her “down to earth” personality and humor, but yet she still portrays herself to be an intelligent and elegant woman.

D.O.L.L.S:
If you are given a chance to travel the past where would you go and specifically why?

Bonita:
I would visit my father’s mother before she passed away.  That way I could talk to her about my dad as a child and get to know her.

D.O.L.L.S:
If you were a type of food, what type of food would you be? I’d be soul food.

Bonita
The product of long and hard work, making everyone full and happy, and always prepared with love.

D.O.L.L.S:
If you won $20 million in the lottery, what would you do with the money?

Bonita:
I would tithe the first 10%, Pay off my student loans, donate 10% to a charity, Invest in some real estate, take care of my family and friends, and travel!!

Looking towards the future with our Doll of the Month...

D.O.L.L.S:
What dream are you currently pursuing?

Bonita:
I feel like I begin the pursuit of a new dream everyday, but currently I have three main objectives:
A.    Get my MBA, with an International Business concentration from the Moore School of Business, USC

B.    Continuing the growth of my Non-Profit Organization: Every Girl’s a P.E.A.R.L (Person of Excellence, Ambition, Royalty, and Love).  EGP, as we usually refer to it, is a mentorship/scholarship program for high-school aged girls within the Rock Hill, SC area.  We arrange educational workshops on issues that young women deal with on a daily basis.  We plan field studies to surrounding colleges and universities, assist with college applications and financial aid forms, and discuss all of the options that will be available to the students after high school.  We also participate in community service events and host social gatherings for the girls.  The Founder and I, the Co-Founder, are currently in the process of trying to begin a chapter of EGP in the Columbia, SC area, as we believe that it’s a program that would be beneficial for a variety of young women.  For more information on EGP please feel free to visit our website: http://www.everygirlsapearl1.ewebsite.com/

C.    I want to win a Grammy.  I am a songwriter and have been writing professionally for approximately six years now.  I’ve had the pleasure of working with local and national recording artists, as well as international artists.  I spend long hours in the studio, and like most other artists, I pour my heart into everything that I create.  I’m currently apart of an amazing writing team called PowerPlugg, which is based out of Charlotte and filled with incredible talent.  I can feel that my goal is right within reach, and soon the world will be listening to my music!

D.O.L.L.S:
What are the first steps you took to follow your dreams?

Bonita
With every goal I have, I began by doing research.  With EGP, I began reading books about starting non-profit organizations.  I also spoke to people that already had successfully established NPO’s.  With my music, I educated myself on the business behind the music.  I learned the dynamics of management and publishing.

D.O.L.L.S:
What are some road blocks that you have come across?

Bonita:
I don’t think I’ve had to deal with anymore road blocks than the average person.  I treat every setback likes it’s God’s way of preparing me to get to the next level.  They are all lessons that I use to shape my present and future.

D.O.L.L.S:
Who are some individuals in your field you admire and would like to
work with in the future?

Bonita:
My technical “field” is banking because that’s my current career.  Within the financial industry I would say Warren Buffet is an individual that I admire because of his financial accomplishments and contributions to charities.  In music, I would love to work with Rodney “DarkChild” Jerkins, Bryan M. Cox, Brandy, Keri Hilson, Beyonce, and Toni Braxton.

D.O.L.L.S:
Is there anything that you’d like our readers to learn from you?

Bonita:
You are the Master of your fate, the Captain of your soul.  Your happiness depends on your own mentality and attitude.  Don’t go throughout life waiting for someone or something to make you happy…Do it yourself!

D.O.L.L.S:
What are your future career goals and aspirations? How are you progressing towards those goals?

Bonita:
In my career in banking, I am striving to be the youngest ever Assistant Vice President within my bank.  Currently, I will be serving as the relief manager for the current AVP while she’s on maternity leave, so being promoted to that position was definitely a good look for me. J

D.O.L.L.S:
What motto do you live by?

Bonita:
“Life’s not about avoiding the storm; it’s about learning to dance in the rain.”  That saying is so true.  In life there will be disappointments, but life is 10% what happens to us, and 90% how we react to it.  Never get stuck in “shoulda, coulda, woulda’s” …keep going no matter what!

D.O.L.L.S:
How do you stay motivated to accomplish your goals?

Bonita:
I think to myself, “Somebody’s going to do it, so it might as well be me!”

D.O.L.L.S:
What can we look forward to from you in the future?

Bonita:
MUSIC and plenty of it! Lol
