Getting to know our Doll!

DOLLS:  How do you tackle stressful situations in your life?

Courtney:  I believe in what I like to call “good” stress and “bad” stress: Either or I handle them by prayer and getting a good laugh with my girls or family J……. Oh and shopping ;) Often closing my eyes and imagining I am on the beach seems to work too.

DOLLS:  If we took a look inside your refrigerator, what would we find?

Courtney:  Mmh, WINE, OJ, cheeese, H2O, fruit (I LOVE making smoothies), ham, leftovers (ha), etc. ….I love to eat. But these are my main items.

DOLLS:  If you were an ice cream flavor what would you be?

Courtney:  Chocolate! With a mix of cheesecake!

DOLLS:  What are the top 3 things on your bucket list?

1. Move to a BIG city with my girls for about a year or two.
2. Visit Paris! J
3. Meet Drake! Lol

Looking towards the future with our Doll of the Month......

DOLLS:  What dream are you currently pursuing?

Courtney:  Currently I’m a School Social Worker. I’ve been a social worker for about 3 years. I LOVE IT! I received my masters degree at the University of South Carolina in 09’ and my undergraduate degree at NC A&T in 08’ AGGIE PRIDE! I’m in the process of working towards receiving my clinical licenses. I also just purchased my FIRST HOME, last year at 23! My goal was to wait until I was married with kids…but as you can see I said that was “MY” goal…lol I bet God laughed at that!

DOLLS:  What are the first steps you took to follow your dreams?

Courtney:  Networking!! I have a good support system both family and friends. They all link me with different people to get me where I need to be. I’m blessed! I’m a very focused and driven person. I’m a true “go getter”.  So, remaining focused and making a list of goals usually is the first steps for me.

DOLLS:  What are some roadblocks that you have come across?

Courtney:  Honestly, I have been showered with so many blessings. I really can’t recall any roadblocks. If so I must have overlooked them to get to something much greater.

DOLLS:  Who are some individuals in your field you admire and would like to work with in the future?

Courtney:  My good friend Kia Morgan, Kelley Davis, and Courtney Worthy; we all attend USC together for grad school and these girls were my rock! I would LOVE to work with them some day! Hey! Maybe start our own private practice.

DOLLS:  Is there anything that you’d like our readers to learn from you?

Courtney:  One thing you can learn from me is being a “go getter” is a good and bad thing. In life you have to know what things are worth pursing and putting blood, sweat and tears into and what opportunities don’t deserve the energy. This is easier said than done of course, because anything worth having takes a lot of work. However, anything worth having shouldn’t compromise any of your morals or beliefs.

DOLLS:  What advice do you have for young women your age?

Courtney:  Advice I have for young women my age. Is don’t be afraid to step out on faith. Sometimes we have goals and our “list” of things and how we want life to be and sometimes that’s not always Gods’ plan for us. So when you feel something is a good opportunity (career, relationships, investments, etc.) GO GET IT!

DOLLS:  At this point in your life, what makes you happiest?

Courtney:  Reflecting on my success and preparing for the future! I rarely live in the moment…but I’m going to work on that J

DOLLS:  What motto do you live by?

Courtney:  “Make it Happen”
“Learn something from everything you do. If you didn’t learn at least one thing about yourself while doing it. Do it again!”

DOLLS:  How do you stay motivated to accomplish your goals?

Courtney:  My friends and family. Knowing that I will always have people I can go and vent to and laugh and cry makes me HaPpY. Nevertheless, I restore myself when I’m alone.

DOLLS:  What can we look forward to from you in the future?

Courtney:  You never know!  Look forward to Ms. Jackson eventually owning a private practice specializing in Marriage and Family Counseling.

This is a great article, very fun and tounge-in-cheek, yet informative and inspiring. This may not apply to Courtney but I'm going to ask anyway: As a Black woman climbing the career ladder, I myself have thought about how making the choice to be successful and to be extraordinary may make the pool of eligible Black men smaller. Courtney had accomplished so much at such a young age. As far as dating, does she consider this an issue? Thanks for shining a spotlight on this accomplished young woman!

Thank you Blackess!!! In response to your question; I definitely come across issues when it comes to dating and the pool is much smaller. But it also depends on the person and what you're looking for. I don't always expect for men to be "exactly" where I am in life. However, I pray they are close to it. It's funny because my girls and I were just talking about this. You have to start surrounding yourself around the type of people that you see potential in. I tend to rule out BS guys quick!!..... But regardless if the pool of black men is large or small, ofcourse strive for greatness in yourself and your career, and everything else will follow.
