Bloggers We Love: Katrice from MyVicariousLyfe.com

Published on Wednesday, November 2, 2011 in ,

Over the next few months, we will be featuring bloggers for our “Bloggers we Love” series, and our first blogger we would like to feature is Katrice L. Mines from MyVicariousLyfe.com. Be sure to check out her lifestyle blog for tips on beauty, fashion, travel, and culture! Enjoy it!

D.O.L.L.S: How would you describe your blogging style?
Katrice: My blogging style is based on my insights and observations about what I'm experiencing and what I love. My approach, as far as the presentation of my content, is heavily influenced by career as a journalist. I like crisp and well-considered posts and impeccable images.

D.O.L.L.S: What inspired you to start blogging?
Katrice: I started blogging as a challenge to myself to get out and start purposely experiencing Atlanta. I wanted to explore and share what I was finding. In the midst of that, I found my voice for what I hope is something inspiring around the theme of living my best life.

D.O.L.L.S: What keeps you motivated to continue blogging?
Katrice: I love my life and I believe sharing the simple way that I go about getting the most out of life may inspire someone. I also love the community that is developing through my blog and the platform that I have built for myself to launch into other pursuits.

D.O.L.L.S: What's the best thing a blogger can give to their readers and why?
Katrice: Authenticity. I believe what keeps a reader coming back is each blogger's perspective on whatever subject or theme is their blog's premise.

D.O.L.L.S: How does your blog reflect your unique style and beliefs?
Katrice: I'm enthralled with the idea of things being done excellently – from my personal style to my pursuits. I pride myself on sharing what I know, whether a sale or natural hair technique. As far as my literal personal style, my blog reflects widening of my style worldview. Since I started blogging, my style has definitely evolved.

D.O.L.L.S: Has social media in any way helped to enhance the blogging experience for you? How?
Katrice: Social media has really helped me to find and network with other bloggers and people who share valuable expertise as well as grow my audience. Facebook and Twitter are incredible avenues to diversifying what I have to offer through My Vicarious Life.

D.O.L.L.S: What's your favorite post that you wish everyone who came to your blog would read and why?
Katrice: My favorite post is “A Lesson in Afrology.” I wrote it to encourage women who have transitioned into wearing their hair natural not to give up on themselves. So many times, we get discouraged with the natural state because it's a relearning of our hair and ourselves as a whole. It can be downright frustrating and I want them to know that it's normal. I hope that anyone who reads it will receive it and find it a resource.

D.O.L.L.S: Name 2 bloggers who you like to read on a regular basis and why?
I read Fajr Muhammad's blog – Stylish Thought because she offers a wide variety of interesting content and is extremely empowering. I also frequent Joshua Kissi and Travis Gumbs' Street Etiquette just to enjoy their photos. The images on their site are brilliant! Both are exciting sites.

D.O.L.L.S: What can our readers expect to find when they drop by your blog?
Katrice: They can expect to find a glimpse into my life through style, travel and natural hair posts as well as commentary around issues that affect black women. I'll be sharing more on the commentary side in the future.

D.O.L.L.S: What advice would you give to someone who is thinking about starting a blog?
Katrice: Develop a thesis for your blog so that you can maintain interest and consistency, and thus build an audience around your particular focus.
