Check out this talented blogger that we absolutely love, and be sure to check out her site and her stylish decorations at www.aphrochicshop.com/
D.O.L.L.S: How would you describe your blogging style?

AphroChic: I blog about the things I love.  AphroChic is a home decor blog dedicated to the idea of melding modern design and cultural style.  That’s what you’ll see on the blog.  Those modern and cultural elements that I love, inspiring homes, and designers.  Because I love sharing what I’m passionate about, you’ll also find some behind-the-scenes on the AphroChic textile company and the book we’re currently writing.
D.O.L.L.S: What inspired you to start blogging?
AphroChic: I wasn’t as much inspired, as in dire need of a creative outlet.  I was working as policy attorney when I first started my blog in 2007, and really needed to exercise the creative part of my brain which has always been attracted to interior design.  It was my husband who encouraged me to start the blog four years ago, and I have been loving writing about inspirational design ever since.
D.O.L.L.S: What keeps you motivated to continue blogging?
AphroChic: That’s a great question.  At some point when you’ve been blogging for a couple of years I think you have to ask yourself that.  When I first started blogging it was just about sharing pieces that caught my eye.  I didn’t care if that information was shared with just 10 or 20 people.  It was fantastic to share something I liked and to discuss it with a community of other creative people.  But after years of writing the blog, it was less a hobby and more a business.  I was (and still do) receiving daily press releases from artists and designers, and I felt pressured to keep up the blog for them, and to make everyone happy even if their work wasn’t the perfect fit for AphroChic.  Now, after four years of blogging, I’m falling back in love again with writing about the things that just inspire me.  The blog was after all, a creative outlet, and I need to connect to those things that help me to have that outlet.  While I still respond to press releases, and submissions, what keeps me motivated is writing about the things that really and truly inspire me.
D.O.L.L.S: What's the best thing a blogger can give to their readers and why?
AphroChic: You can give your readers a place where they can come, rest for just a moment, and see something beautiful.  Many of the people who read my blog are perusing the pages during the day while they’re at work, and just looking for a little break.  It’s when they click over to AphroChic, and there is a beautiful image that they can see, that’s the gift I want to give them every week.  That’s what beautiful design can be - something that makes you feel good and at peace.
D.O.L.L.S: How does your blog reflect your unique style and beliefs?
AphroChic: My blog is all me.  It’s my baby.  When you’re reading AphroChic, you’re getting what I enjoy about design and artistry.  That’s one reason I have never allowed guest bloggers or others to write on the site.  AphroChic has to be my voice.  It’s my personal way to connect with others out there who are also looking for modern design, with cultural and soulful style that reflects who they are.
D.O.L.L.S: Has social media in any way helped to enhance the blogging experience for you? How?
AphroChic: I love social media!  It has become another extension of my blog and my company as a whole.  Social media is a great connector, and a great equalizer as well.  You can connect with people who you never imagined connecting with - editors, design stars, entrepreneurs, and through a tweet or a post on Facebook build a relationship.  It’s very helpful if you’re trying to grow your blog.  Not only is it about getting new readers, but again through social media you can find a community, and that community can be really important as you grow as a blogger.
D.O.L.L.S: What's your favorite post that you wish everyone who came to your blog would read and why?
AphroChic: Oh my goodness.  I just looked, and as of today there have been 966 posts on the blog!  I think my favorite post will always be my first one because I remember it.  I remember setting up my little blogger template, coming up with my name, and hitting the submit button for the first time and wondering who in the world would be out there reading that first post. It was about a chair by Philadelphia textile designer Lauren Rossi.  I remember how much I loved that post, because the chair was the most wild thing I had ever seen, and had to share it.  I recently met up with Lauren for the first time over the summer.  We connected via Linked In (again, a nod to social media as a great connecter) and it was great to tell her why I loved her work so much, and that her chair was the first thing I ever posted about on the blog.
D.O.L.L.S: Name 2 bloggers who you like to read on a regular basis and why?
AphroChic: Holly Becker from Decor8.  She is authentic, and the love for the pieces she writes about really comes through in every post.  Joy Cho from Oh Joy!  Her blog is full of gorgeous photos, and I remember being inspired by her posts when I first started writing AphroChic.
D.O.L.L.S: What can our readers expect to find when they drop by your blog?
AphroChic: Beautiful homes, modern decor, cultural accessories, original art, and the occasional drop-in from designers who inspire me.
D.O.L.L.S: What advice would you give to someone who is thinking about starting a blog?
AphroChic: Write from the heart, write what you love, write often, and find other bloggers to connect with.  It is a great supportive community out there.  In the end, like with everything else you do in life, be yourself, and there will be a unique audience that gravitates to your blog.
